Dehumidifiers - Industrial Ventilation Systems
Too much of a good thing is a bad thing, at least with humidity! A little humidity in the air helps prevent product and equipment from drying out and cracking and also helps keep workers’ nasal passages moist to help fight germs. However, too much humidity can lead to mold, corrosion, rotting, and other issues for your facility.
At Eldridge, our specialists can help you maintain proper humidity levels in your industrial ventilation systems by installing dehumidifiers for moist environments.
There are two main types of dehumidifiers to choose from for your facility: refrigerant and desiccant. Refrigerant dehumidifiers take advantage of condensation to remove moisture from the air and restore humidity levels to optimal levels. Using a refrigerated surface, these devices lower air temperature to dew point, causing extra humidity in the air to condense on the surface.
Refrigerant dehumidification is ideal for industrial ventilation systems that deal with high temperatures and high moisture levels. Generally, these work well in facilities with over 45% relative humidity to help dry out the air and also keep it cool.
By contrast, desiccant dehumidifiers are generally better for use in lower temperatures and relative humidity. These dehumidifiers use desiccants like silica gel, molecular sieves, or activated alumina, which absorb moisture. Air passes through sheets of the desiccant material to help improve high humidity levels. Desiccant Dehumidification is commonly used in facilities like pharmaceutical production, food production, chemical labs, and marine applications.

Explosion Proof Dehumidifiers – Safe Environments for Marine and Offshore
In addition to Industrial Dehumidifiers, we have partnered with Innovative Air Technologies to design and develop specialized explosion proof (XP) equipment for hazardous environments like offshore applications. MODU rigs naturally encounter challenges with humidity. In below deck areas, humidity can cause corrosion on equipment and assist mold growth in quarters, leading to health and safety risks.
In most cases, we recommend desiccant dehumidifiers. In Offshore applications, desiccants are typically more effective and efficient at removing excess moisture from the air. Designed with a rotating wheel, these devices draw in moisture-laden air and remove water with the desiccant. Then the wheel is regenerated with heat to pick up more moisture as it continues to rotate.
Components for marine dehumidifiers are designed with all safety precautions in mind, including an XP design for offshore MODU rigs. Our marine and industrial ventilation systems experts regularly assist marine facilities in proper ventilation and relative humidity for safety, health, and corrosion-prevention.
