E-Hive Hood Success Story

Our first E-Hive Hood was installed around a year ago as part of an Eldridge designed gas pipeline compressor station ventilation system.  They were installed as part of a gas pipeline compressor station ventilation system Eldridge designed.   Our E-Hive Hoods were a key component in providing adequate air flow for the building while also achieving the noise reduction target specified by the customer.

Design Criteria

Our customer was building a new gas pipeline compressor station located in Northeast Texas.  They needed Eldridge to design a ventilation system for a building that would house a Solar Mars 100 turbine to drive the compressor.  The customer’s specifications for the ventilation system also included:

  • Power supply and gravity exhaust
  • 10º F maximum delta between inside and outside temperatures
  • Noise limitation of 71 decibels at 12 feet

System Solution

With combined requirements to meet air flow and noise specifications, our design solution needed to be innovative as well as financially practical.  To achieve these key points, we incorporated the Eldridge E-Hive Hood into the system design.  Used as a gravity exhaust hood, the four-sided Eldridge E-Hive Hood provided maximum open area for exhaust air flow compared to other gravity hood styles.  The compressor station was to be located in an area  susceptible to high winds and tornados, therefore, the low-profile design and ability to handle wind load were key features that made the Eldridge E-Hive Hood a smart design choice.   The geometry of the Eldridge E-Hive Hood, along with an acoustical lining, provided ample noise attenuation to meet the noise reduction target.

Site Visit

Upon arrival at the site to check on the ventilation system’s performance, we were met by a happy compression station manager.  He was pleased with the overall performance of the ventilation system.  We ran some tests and with the measurements confirming that the ventilation system was operating as designed.

At Eldridge, our goal is to provide optimal solutions to fit our customer’s applications.  We back every ventilation system design with a guaranty that it will provide the required performance, even for the most challenging specifications.  If you have a challenging ventilation system design, call Eldridge to make it happen.
